I got the idea from HapiKamper on Ravelry.
I had to make one for myself.
I took the doily pattern and used a bigger hook and adjusted
it to my tire. I'm so EXCITED!!! Can't wait to drive around
and show it off!!
this is the link to the pattern I used:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE car doilies! I want to go buy a car with an outside spare just so I can make one of these. Yours looks FABULOUS!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just so cool! Looks so pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen one of those before, but what an awesome idea! (I would never be able to convince the hubby to let me do that though if we had an outer spare).
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Thanks everyone...I'm all excited about making these...they are so much fun to create.
ReplyDeleteI am SOOOOOO impressed. That is amazingly KOOL.
ReplyDeleteThat so suits your vehicle, what a clever idea and I'm still laughing :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful. I know it would get stolen while shopping.
ReplyDeleteThis is GREAT and made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculously the coolest thing I have ever seen! makes me want a car with a spare tire thingy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea this is the cutest thing for a truck or jeep. I really want to make one for my baby bronco. Sadly it is on its last tire and i am trying to baby it so i can keep it longer. What a way to go out in style.
ReplyDeleteMakes me feel so good that everyone loves my Car doily as much as I do. So far no one has stolen it. I think people are more excited about seeing it then stealing it. I can't even count the number of people that have commented on it.
ReplyDeleteI'm busy making more designs.
Hi Linda, found you on ravelry in the potholder group....wanted to stop by, awesome cover....really shows off your love of the craft...and brings awareness to the hook/yarn it is not dead.
ReplyDeleteWow! Lovely! It almost makes me want to get a car with an outside-mounted spare tire. I wonder how I can adorn my bicycleÉ
ReplyDeleteLike it! wanna make one for my jeep. What type of yarn do you use?
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteYou creative thinker, you!
AWESOME!!!! You Rock and it is spectacular for that Jeep!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! this is exactly why I want a tire on the back of my vehicle!
ReplyDeleteoooo sooo coool!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! You said you're going to try other designs--what kind of materials have you tried? I was thinking that hardware store twine/cord section might've something plastic-y that's smoother--and therefore easier to wash (either with hose outdoors or in washing machine) than yarn (fibers of latter would naturally grab onto dirt, car oil, etc)
ReplyDeleteHapiKamper said she used orlon acrylic yarn (from decades old stash) and size I hook for her car doily whose photo on Ravelry inspired yours.
Pinwheel Doily pattern you chose is very elegant--could you PLEASE repeat end of URL of pattern? I can't see beyond "celtw???"
THANKS!!
Thank you everyone!!!
ReplyDeleteI fixed the link...
I am so thinking about doing this for my Land Rover now, thanks :P
ReplyDeleteThat. Is. Wonderful! Wow!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! I posted on the FB wall for 'Knit It', a community for knitters, crocheters and felters.

ReplyDeleteThat's lovely. I will post it on my blog, if you don't mind!
ReplyDeleteI SO want to do this for my spare tire cover on my little vintage travel trailer, but can't get the link to open. I really am not experienced enough to know how to convert a pattern to fit. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a fabulous idea and a great way to showcase your beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteWOW - Impressive!__
ReplyDeleteWhat about macramé cord? I bet that would wear well! This is too cool!!!
ReplyDeleteWow it's amazing and cool.
ReplyDeleteCar Dollies
How do you keep it secured?
ReplyDeleteAnd what hook did you use?
ReplyDeleteDid you just make a giant doily big enough to go all the way around the tire, then put a drawstring through it? I'm confused about that part.
ReplyDeleteIs there a place to purchase the pattern. Love this.
ReplyDeleteRhonda
How do you keep it from fading? Mine looks bad after 2 years on my jeep.
ReplyDeleteWhat size hook did you use?
